Kingston Regional Heritage Fair May 11th

Kingston Regional Heritage Fair Celebrates History 9 a.m. - 3:45 p.m. at Duncan McArthur Hall, Queen's University Faculty of Education  History comes alive May 11, 2017 at Duncan McArthur Hall, Queen’s University Faculty of Education, as the Kingston Regional Heritage Fair celebrates its 22nd anniversary.The Fair features historical inquiries of students in grades 4 to 8 from schools throughout the Kingston area.  Project boards, computer displays, videos and performances will showcase family, local, provincial and national history and heritage. A special focus group will present a wide variety of projects focussing on Reconciliation.The excitement begins at 9:00 a.m. with a short Opening Ceremony followed by a rotation of activities that include project displays, heritage workshops and interactive student learning activities.  Local members of the community from museum and heritage groups will present six historical workshops and sixteen interactive booths for the students.At 3:00 p.m. an award ceremony will recognize all of the students for excellence in historical research and feature special prizes provided by local and provincial sponsors. Community judges will be chose 3 students from the 261 students representing their schools at this year’s fair to attend the Ontario Provincial Heritage Fair which will be held at York University June 9– 11, 2017.  Six additional local students will become Young Citizens and enter their 3-4 minute videos in a national video contest sponsored by Canada’s History.The Kingston Regional Heritage Fair would like to thank our local sponsors and partners: the City of Kingston for its Heritage Fund Grant; Queen’s University Faculty of Education; the Kingston Association of Museums, Art Galleries and Historic Sites; the Ontario Power Generation (Lennox Operating Station); the Rotary Club of Cataraqui-Kingston; the Kingston Historical Society; the Cataraqui Cemetery Group, the UEL- Kington Branch; the Museum of Health Care; other cash donors; and our participating schools for helping us sustain this annual celebration of Our Heritage-Our Future!  We hope you will join us.For more information  contact the Fair by email at info@krhf.ca.
